Gordon Hughes (GH), Susan Rich (SR) Brent Gundlah

Meeting began at 7:30 pm

1.)                111 Pond Street

·        The primary focus of this meeting was to hear from the representatives of the property regarding their intentions for this property.

·        D. Martin opened the meeting by introducing the members of the Commission and then reading the official notice for this meeting which was both advertised in the Sharon Advocate and mailed to the abutters.

·        D. Martin then presented a brief history of the property ranging from its construction as written in the “Red Book”, thru to the purchase by the Temple in 1974.

·        Representatives from the Temple expressed the position of their committee which is in favor of removing the structure from the property. This would eliminate the potential danger of having an unoccupied open building.

·        Over the past few months discussions were held that expressed an interest by the Temple to find someone or a group that would be interested in rehabbing the building. The Sharon Housing Authority and Habitat for Humanity expressed an interest.

·        Jane Desberg of the Sharon Housing Authority spoke about the interest that Habitat had in this potential project.

·        Numerous other ideas, both for the renovation of the building and razing it were heard from numerous people in attendance.

·        Ultimately the Temple representatives stated that they would like to proceed with the demolition. They have already filed for a demolition permit from the building department.

·        After hearing from many of the people in attendance the Chairman, D. Martin closed the discussion.

·        A motion was made by SHC member B. Gundlah to institute the Demolition Delay Bylaw as outlined in Article 34. This was seconded by S. Schofield.

·         The Sharon Historical Commission voted unanimously to impose the one (1) year demolition delay Bylaw.
